This folio volume of manuscript hymns, all unpublished were born out of the early Primitive Methodist movement in England and in the United States. The revivalist movement sought to restore the original deeply experimental aspects of the Great Awakening under John Wesley, George Whitefield, etc., and was articulated most dramatically by the camp meeting preacher, Lorenzo Dow. The present hymns, the work of Daniel Weston and
